Please have your child begin studying his/her multiplication facts now. Students are expected to memorize their facts through the 12s. Beginning sometime in October, students will be tested on their fact fluency. They must score a 90% or higher. If a student scores less than a 90% he/she will be retested weekly. This fact test will be a major grade.
When using flashcards to study, only focus on 10 at a time. When a student gets to a fact he/she does not know, put it 3 cards back. The frequent repition will help that fact go into long term memory.
Another great way to practice the facts is playing multiplication battle. Make the royal cards the facts your child is having difficulty with. For example, if the 6s are giving him/her a hard time, make all the Jacks, Queens, and Kings 6s. We will play this game in class when we begin our multiplicaiton unit. |
