ESL pull-out is a 30 minute, small group instructional program that takes place in the ESL room with Ms. Evans. Each group begins with a read-aloud to reinforce reading strategies and promote fluency. The remainder of the time is spent using a variety of activities, games, and instructional strategies to develop phonological awareness, decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.

Students also practice making, reading, and writing high frequency and pattern words. During guided and independent reading, students use literature to practice comprehension skills and strategies.

This year I will be spending more time in classrooms, working with the ESL students and their teachers on academic vocabulary. I collaborate with each child's classroom teacher to monitor progress and academic achievement.
