ESL pull-out is a 1 hour, small group instructional program with 30 minutes for reading and 30 minutes for math. We begin our reading group with a read-aloud to reinforce reading strategies and promote fluency. The remainder of the time is spent using a variety of activities, games, and instructional strategies to develop phonological awareness, decoding, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. During guided and independent reading, students use literature to practice comprehension skills and strategies.

During Math time we work on academic vocabulary, numeracy, fact fluency, and problem solving skills. We use a variety of manipulatives, games, and hands-on activities to reinforce learning.

As the ESL teacher, I collaborate with each child's classroom teacher to monitor progress and academic achievement.
