Getting into college can seem like a game. Sometimes the choices are overwhelming, the paperwork plentiful, plus you still have to pay for it!

But it is possible to narrow and choose what’s best for you. We have numerous resources to help you through this maze.

College Application, Scholarship, and Recruiter Visits
  • Cottey College - a nationally accredited two-year women's liberal arts school in Nevada, MO offering 10:1 student/facility, leadership opportunities, free trip abroad, scholarships in academics, music, athletics, and special financial aid needs.  Associates degree and ease transferring credits to four year college make this school appealing.
  • UT College of Fine Arts - Admission to UT College of Fine Arts is not bound to top 10% rules! Applicants are admitted based on academic record and conspicuous evidence of artistic interest and accomplishment; usually involves portfolio review or audition. Admission deadline has been advanced to JANUARY 15, 2009 so please make plans to apply right away if you are a candidate for University College of Fine Arts. Visit the website for more information.
  • For graduating high school seniors wanting early admission to Medical School, check out the Partnership for Primary Care Program for early admissions to Texas A&M Health Science Center College of medicine.  This is an early admissions program that guarantees a space in our College of Medicine. Beginning December 1, 2008 through February 13, 2009, those students interested in applying for the program may send in their application forms for consideration.
  • Future Aggies - Sign up now for Aggieland Saturday! The annual campus-wide open house for prospective students and their families. Click here to register for Aggieland Saturday - February 21, 2009.
  • Soka University in Aliso Viejo, California is offering free tuition for families making $60,000 or less. This is a private, non-profit, four-year liberal arts college offering a 9:1 student/faculty ratio as well as study abroad. See Mrs. Towal for more details.
  • University of North Texas - Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is an early college entrance program which allows students to complete the last two years of high school concurrently with the first two years of college at UNT. Details available at TAMS or 940.369.8796.

    Baylor University Air Force ROTC - If you are interested in Baylor and a career in the Air Force beckons you, then check out the Scholarship opportunities available as an Air Force ROTC cadet at Baylor:
    AFROTC Type 1 pays full tuition / Type 2 pays $15K/yr
    Baylor Merit Scholarship ( $14K to $3K/ yr)
    Baylor AFROTC Incentive Scholarship ($3K/ yr)
    $900 / yr for textbooks
    $300 - $500 monthly, tax-free stipend

    Carr P. Collins Scholars Program at Baylor. See Mrs. Towal for more information about this academic scholarship program for admitted Baylor students. This scholarship awards $4,350 per year, renewable for 3 years. Check out the Baylor Freshman Scholarship Calculator and Financial Aid Estimator to help families estimate their costs for college education at Baylor. In addition, students can learn more about how to apply for need-based grants and scholarships.

    Kettering University has released more than $6 million in scholarship funds! Interested in Engineering, Math, Science, or Business? Pre-Med, Computer Gaming, Bioengineering, or Data Security? Kettering students can earn while they learn - earn as much as $65,000 through co-op employment. Admission deadline for priority consideration is December 15, 2008. Apply for free and check out Kettering Merit Scholarships. Kettering University is located in Flint, Michigan.

    The Zonta Club of Austin offers an annual $1,000 scholarship to 1 senior female from the Central Texas Area. Additionally, one senior female’s original application will be forwarded to the Zonta District Governor to compete among recipients from five states (Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana) for another $1,000. An additional $3,000 is available at the International level.
    The recipient must be pre-university or pre-college female (age 16-20) at time of application and demonstrate:
    evidence of active commitment to volunteerism
    evidence of volunteer leadership achievements
    evidence of international awareness, and
    evidence of dedication to advancing the status of women worldwide.
    Application deadline: February 14, 2009.

    Texas Lutheran University is offering a Pacesetter Award for College Excellence (PACE). If interested, please see Mrs. Towal.
    Criteria includes acceptance at TLU, high school GPA of 3.50 (4pt scale), SAT/ACT of 1250/28 or higher OR rank in top 10% of class with minimum of 1100/24 SAT/ACT.
    Deadline for application is Feb. 6, 2009 and student must have applied and been accepted at TLU.
    All qualified applicants will participate in "Day of Exchange and Excellence" at TLU, Seguin on February 22, 2009.
    Each applicant participating will receive a minimum PACE scholarship.

    Angelo State University is offering $3.5 million for Carr Academic Scholarships with individual awards from $2,000 to $6,000 annually with priority given to individuals of high academic ablility. Applications are available online.

    Texas Engineering Foundation 2008-2009 Scholarship Application for Graduating Texas High School Seniors
    Individual Texas Engineering Foundation Chapters will sponsor scholarships for students pursing an engineering program at an ABET-accredited (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) college or university. Amount is not specified; it will be determined by chapters. If you plan to study engineering this could be for you!
    Deadline January 16, 2009

    Capital City A & M Club scholarship information and application. Must be postmarked by March 2, 2009. All students who plan to apply to Texas A&M, College Station, are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Merit is heavily counted, so students who may not think they have enough financial need, may still receive a scholarship.

    2009 Girls Going Places Entrepeneurship Award Program
    Grants from $1,000-$10,000 to entrepreneurial and community-minded teen girls sponsored by Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. Open to girls 12-18 years old. Personal statement of entrepreneurship goals and personal letter of endorsement from adult are required. See Girls Going Places website for more information.

    Texas A&M University is expanding its commitment to low and middle income students through the Aggie Assurance program. The Aggie Assurance encourages Texans to pursue higher education at a flagship, research institution. This is a wonderful opportunity for eligible students - check it out!

    TEXAS Tuition Promise Fund. This fund will cover tuition and fees only, but locks in current tuition prices at public colleges and universities in Texas.     George A. Odum ’67 Endowed Scholarship in Petroleum Engineering will provide one or more scholarships to Texas residents who are undergraduates in the university’s petroleum engineering program.
