College Connection Program |
The Lago Vista ISD Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring that all of our graduates demonstrate and understand the skills and knowledge needed to successfully enroll in postsecondary education. To this end Lago Vista Independent School District is partnering with Austin Community College (ACC) in an initiative called, "The LVISD/ACC College Connection".
To provide a seamless transition to higher education, this partnership between LVISD and ACC gives every senior student in our high school the opportunity to be admitted to ACC. Upon graduation from high school, students who participate in this partnership will be ready to acquire a 2-year degree, a certificate, a license, or complete the first two years of a 4-year degree program at ACC. For students who have already been accepted to, or plan to attend another college or university, these students can, if they so choose, attend ACC during a summer session and receive transferable college credit.

The Distinquished Achievement Program |
The Distinquished Achievement Program (DAP) recognizes students who demonstrate levels of performance equivalent to college students or work done by professionals in the arts, sciences, business industry, or in community service. Students complete the course requirements as determined by The Texas Education Agency (for example, three credits in the same foreign language) and receive any combination of four of the following advanced measures (for example, two AP examination scores of 3 or higher, one research project and a college course; or four college courses).
Advanced measures include:
1. Original research/project: (Original research/projects may not be used for more than two of the four advanced measures.)
*judged by a panel of professionals in the field that is the focus of the project; or
*conducted under the direction of mentor(s)and reported to an appropriate audience;
*related to the required curriculum set forth in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
2. Test Data:
* a score of three or above on The College Board Advanced Placement examination;
*a score on the PSAT that qualifies a student for recognition as a Commended Scholar or higher by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
3. College Courses:
* a grade of (B) or higher on courses that count for college credit, including tech prep programs.
Remember that all requirements must be met prior to graduation in order to be considered a "Distinguished" graduate at the graduation ceremony.
