Hi, my name is Debbie Hansen and this is my 28th year working in the Lago Vista Independent School District. I absolutely love teaching Health and Sex Education at the high school level. In addition to my Health classes, I also enjoy coaching volleyball and golf at the high school level and coaching basketball at the middle school level.
I graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Tx., (many, many years ago) with a Bachelor of Science Degree In Education. I had a double major in Health and Physical Education, with a minor in English. I played collegiate volleyball and basketball and also found time to play the cello in the orchestra and write sports articles for the Williamson County Sun. I loved the small-town atmosphere in Georgetown and decided to seek employment in a small school system. I accepted a teaching/coaching job in Lago Vista, fell in love with the community, and the Texas Hill Country and I've been here ever since.
The health of adolescents is a special concern as the decisions/choices teenagers make in their daily lives often have short-term and long-term positive or negative implications. The importance of health education has never been greater. Knowledge gained in Health Education affects attitudes and consequently, behavior. This course focuses on the relationship that exists among physical, mental, and social health. Students will learn that their decisions affect all of these areas of health and they will discover that the decisions they make can promote their health and their enjoyment of life now and in the future.
