HOW TO REACH THE NURSE
I am happy to help in any way I can with your child's health issues. I have two phone numbers to be reached by. My direct # is 267-8377 but it is quite often busy. My secondary line is 267-8380 ext 1234 and it has voice mail with it so you may leave messages there.
WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL?
We applaud your efforts to get your children to school as many days as possible, but there will be days that isn't a good idea for both the health of your child and the other students.

Our guidelines for being sent home or for staying home have been refered to as The 5 B's: The names aren't elegant but the kids like them...

Baking - Having a temperature over 100 degrees.
Bleeding - Needing stitches
Barfing - Nauseated and vomiting
Broken - Can't walk safely or comfortably even with crutches
Bugs - Live untreated lice found in the hair.

MEDICATIONS
LVISD rules state that students are not allowed to carry medications. Any medicine that they need must be kept in the school nurse's office. The only exception to that rule is inhalers for asthmatics whose parents have contacted the school nurse. To download a medication permission form, click on the "Forms" link on the left.

All medications must be sent to the nurse in their original container along with written permission from the parent to take it. The school provides Tylenol and Ibuprophen to students with written permission on file from their parents.
IMMUNIZATIONS
For students to be enrolled in public schools, The State of Texas requires up-to-date immuzations. Click here to see the immunization requirements for Texas, www.dshs.state.tx.us/immunize/docs/school/6-14.pdf

You will receive a notice from the school if your child is due for a vaccination.
You can contact your doctor to get their shots or you can call The Williamson County Annex in Cedar Park to see about getting the shots there. Their number is 260-4240. For a map to the Annex, click on the "Forms" link on the left.
HEALTH SCREENINGS
Health screenings at the Middle School and High School are done for all 7th and 9th grade students and for any other indiviual student thought to be having problems. Parents will be notified if there are any concerns that require follow-up with a physician. The screenings done by the school nurse include:

Vision
Hearing
Scoliosis
Acanthosis
Height
Weight

HELP, MY CHILD HAS HEAD LICE...
It sounds gross and can be embarrassing, but Nits Happen! It's a very common problem, especially for kids ages 3-12 yrs. (girls more often than boys,) but they are not dangerous and they don't spread disease. However, they are contagious and can be downright annoying.

See the LVISD guidelines followed when a child is found have live head lice or untreated nits.

The fact sheet at Centers for Disease Control Parasitic Disease Division, is very hepful.
