Lago Vista ES Rocks!
Mrs. Heather Stoner, Principal
A LITTLE ABOUT MY PAST...Ask my mother and she will tell you that she has always known I would end up in some kind of profession that allowed me to work with young people. I have always found the most enjoyment from teaching, playing, and interacting with youth. I am a graduate of St. Edward's University, in Austin, where I majored in Education and Mathematics and minored in Biology; my hopes and dreams to become a high school math teacher. My first six years in LVISD, I taught Algebra II and Geometry at Lago Vista High School. I was the "Assistant to the Principal" at the high school while I taught for three of those years. In 2003, I went back to college and earned my Master's degree in Educational Administration from Texas State University. In 2004, I became a fulltime Assistant Principal at Lago Vista High School. In 2006, I was named Primary Grade Principal at Lago Vista Elementary School. And in 2011, I was named Principal of LVES! Wow, what a journey it has been!
PRESENTLY..I have really enjoyed the transition from secondary education to elementary level. These past years have been full of fun firsts, lots of learning (for everyone), and tons of hugs. It's amazing how different it can be working at an elementary campus from working at a high school. Yet, many things are so much the same. My favorite educational quote, "The secret lies in respecting the student" (John Dewey) applies just as much here as it did at the high school! There are great things constantly happening on this campus because of the truly awesome people who walk through our doors each day. This is a great place for our children!
IN THE FUTURE...I truly enjoy working with the young people of LVISD. I have an amazing daughter, Peyton, who is six years old. And in November 2009, we added my charming son, Brody Preston, to our family. Having children really gives you a different perspective on education. My husband, Jason, is wonderful and supportive and as an added bonus is now a math teacher at Lago Vista High School. It is nice having our entire family in the LV community. One of the reasons I love working in LVISD is that it is a place that I would feel safe and proud to send my own daughter. It is a place with extremely high academic standards. It's a place where teachers make lifelong connections with their students; where they realize that students have to know that you care before they can ever care to learn. This is the kind of school my husband and I want for our daughter. This is the kind of school that Lago Vista Elementary School exemplifies!
