You first have to use a download page to upload your documents to the server, and so that they will have a file path (just like a URL). What I did then, was to use the Properties button to take my "hidden documents" page out of the navigation, and then use href tags to make links to those documents. The best part of doing it this way is that I can make those documents open in a new browser. I can also reformat a web page in a way that looks a little spiffier than a regular Download page, as below.
