The Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA)
reading program is a state wide program established in 1979. It was designed to encourage Texas children (grades 3-6) to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books.
Students read from a
list of 20 nominated titles each year. In January, students who have read 5 or more book from the list, get to vote for their favorite book. The award process provides librarians, teachers, parents, and writers with insight into young students' reading preferences. It further affords an opportunity to honor and encourage imaginative authors who create books with high appeal to children.
We then celebrate with a party in April when the winning book is announced.
