ARD, IEP, LRE, FIE???? What are they talking about? During a meeting, please feel free to interrupt and ask questions if it doesn't make sense to you. Here are some general explanations of some of the terms that come up at parent/teacher meetings.
ARD- Admit, Review, Dismiss
a meeting held to admit a student into special education services, OR review and update their current education plan, OR dismiss from special education services
IEP- Individualized Education Plan/Program- legal document detailing the educational program of a child
LRE- Least Restrictive Environment- a child with a disability will stay in class with non-disabled peers as much as possible
FIE- Full Individual Evaluation- a report of individual testing that your child took part in, often used to determine eligibility for special education services and to assist in planning the IEP. |
