2007-2008 Viking Victories

AVCA Honors Academic Excellence
August 2008

The American Volleyball Coaches Association is pleased to announce that 353 volleyball programs have achieved the 2007-08 Game Plan / AVCA Team Academic Award, including the 2007-08 Lago Vista High School Varsity Volleyball Team. The award honors college and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 4.1 cumulative team grade-point average on a 5.0 scale during the school year.

Over 900 different schools have won the award in the program’s 16-year history. This is the sixth consecutive year the Lago Vista Varsity Volleyball team has earned the recognition. The high school ranks produced 128 programs across the United States (15 from the state of Texas) that met the requirements for the 2007-08 Volleyball Team Academic Award.

Each school will receive a plaque commemorating the designation. Members of the Lago Vista High School 2007-08 Varsity Volleyball team were Ari Calderon, Anya Haas, Lani Blackwell, Katelyn Holleyman, Anna Hollingsworth, Jenny Kunze, Erin Lockhart, Chelsea Macut, Megan Mumford, Danielle Richter, Amanda Scott, Leah Sneed, and Chandler Voswinkel.

Congratulations to Nate Menkin who placed 6th at the state track meet Saturday, May 10. Nate threw his second best throw of his career of 168' 1" to place 6th among over 200 high schools and hundreds of discus throwers in the state of Texas.
Congratulations to the Lady Viking softball team for an amazing season. The team finished as Regional Quarterfinalists with an overall record of 24 wins and 8 losses.

Congratulations to seniors, Lindsay Jackson and Jenny Kunze, for being named to the 2008 Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State Golf Team.
The Regional Quarterfinal games were announced Monday. LVHS Lady Vikings will play Danbury in a best 2 of 3-game series, starting Thursday, May 8th at 7pm. Click here for softball schedule.
The UIL Social Studies Team (coached by Scottie Johnson) took 4th Place in the State UIL Academic Meet. In individual competition, Marisa Stewart placed third. (Team members included Brandon Grant, Lucas Seiferman, Ryan Monahan, Alex Murphy, and Marisa Stewart – Marissa is missing from the photo because she had to leave the UT competition site to go to Elgin to play softball!
Lady Vikings softball team defeated Schulenberg in a best 2 of 3 series (0-1, 1-0, 2-0) for the Area title. The Vikings will play Danbury for Regional Quarterfinals. Check out the 2A bracket at the UIL site
LV High students set new records at Regional Track Meet

Congratulations the the LV boys’ golf team for going to the regional golf tournament again this year. After a rough start, they gathered their composure to shoot their best team score of the entire year (333) – placing 6th out of 16 teams.
Congratulations to the Lago Vista Girls Golf Team for placing fifth out of 16 teams at the Region IV-AA Girls Golf Championship. The Lady Vikings shot their best team scores of the season and best Lago Vista team scores since 2006.
Led by Scottie Johnson, the UIL Social Studies team are Regional Champs! The will compete for the state title on May 2.
