Didja Know?
Starting the Day
*Please join other students in the gym if you arrive before 7:40.
* Between 7:40 and 7:50, put your folder, lunch/snack, and backpacks where they belong. Get everything you need for your morning work. Take care of any restroom or water needs. These tasks should be completed by 7:50.
* KLVE NEWS starts promptly at 7:50. Once the news begins, students should remain at their seats, listening to the announcements.
* The broadcast begins with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Pledge to the Texas Flag. Students are expected to stand and are invited to join the pledges with their right hands on their hearts. Students should be seated and silent through the rest of the broadcast.
Snack Attack
We have an available snack time every morning around 9:30. Snacks:
* need to be packed separately from lunches
* should be relatively neat (not sticky, juicy, crumbly, "cheesy") as snack time is enjoyed with reading time
* should NOT need refrigeration or utensils
* are to help tide over our tummies until lunch, not fill us up instead of lunch
Water, Water Everywhere
Please feel free to provide a small bottle of water for our student.
WATER ONLY: no sports drinks, juices or juice drinks, etc. Please, just water as it is easily cleaned up when accidentally spilled :).
Gotta GO!
Fortunately we have a restroom in our classroom. Our policy is IF the teacher is not talking AND the pass is hanging on the door, go ahead. IF the class is working as a group OR the pass is NOT on the door (meaning someone is already in there), WAIT.
We also have a class restroom break before any outside time, before and after lunch, and before specials. I don't send students in once we go outside (unless it's a true emergency) because I want to ensure the safety and supervision of all students.
Home to School and Back Again
A folder comes home every day. MTWTh: the Daily Folder-- it lists homework assignments, conduct for the day, and any other quick notes we need to write to each other. It should be initialed by a responsible caregiver EVERY day. On FRIDAY we send home a Friday Folder. This orange plastic envelope will have completed work, newsletters and flyers, Scholastic book order forms, etc. It should be emptied over the weekend, and any papers or items that require signature should be signed and returned in the folder.
Going Home
If there is to be any change in the way your child is going home, PLEASE contact the front office [267-8340] to let them know, send a note in your child's folder, or email me directly. 1:30 is the very latest a change can be made. If we don't have the paper, we don't make the change.

CAR RIDERS ONLY: We want to STRONGLY ENCOURAGE that you remain in your car and go through the line with your child's name prominently displayed. There are many reasons that I would be happy to discuss with you if needed, but mainly it all comes down to safety. We promise, it goes fast!

BUS RIDERS ONLY: Please remind your bus riders about proper bus behavior. Our bus drivers need to be able to concentrate on safely driving the bus, not on discipline. (BTW our class does not have a major issue with this, yea! I just want to encourage these good habits so as they get older, they set a great example.)
Munch at Lunch
Did you know your child has a lunch account? I highly recommend taking a moment to visit our cafeteria (or send a check to school) to add funds to the lunch account. Your child simply tells the cashier his/her full name and the cost is deducted from the account. No cash gets lost. You can even check the balance (and add to it) online.

Mealtime Online
Check with the cafeteria for sign-on information.
Dress for Success
This isn't really a CLASS policy, but thought it worth mentioning... we have some form of physical activity EVERY DAY and the appropriate shoes minimize the chance of injury. When dressing your child for school, please keep in mind comfort (will they be uncomfortable during most school activities?), skills (if they can't undo that belt, restroom breaks are very difficult), and safety (a hilly, rocky playground + flip-flops = twisted ankles and other falls). Please review the district dress code if you have any other questions.

You Say It's Your Birthday!
We will happily distribute invitations at school if there is one for every student in the class. We also love to have a sweet treat to celebrate... just let me know and we'll arrange a good time!
I'm sure none of this is news to you... just wanted to make sure!
If there's anything you think needs to be added to this page, please tell me! I want this website to make it easy for you to help you first grader succeed.
