INQUIRING MINDS & WORLD EVENTS
In order to help our students become global citizens and become more aware of the outside world we will be learning about current events and choosing personal inquiry.
Students will be provided with a composition book to record weekly information. This is an ongoing assignment and it is the student's responsibility to keep up with it throughout the week.
Every Friday, students will present their INQUIRING MINDS personal inquiry or their WORLD EVENT.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT ONLY ONE OF THESE IS DUE A WEEK. Students will either complete an Inquiring Minds personal inquiry OR a World Event.
INQUIRING MINDS (personal inquiry)
If students choose to complete a personal inquiry, this is what is expected:
1. At some point early in the week, choose an inquiry from the Inquiring Minds Board or come up with a personal inquiry of your own.
2. Write the inquiry/question down in the Inquiring Minds section of the composition book.
3. Throughout the week, research the topic on your own & record your findings in your composition book.
4. On Friday, report your findings.
World Events Report: If students choose to complete a world event report, this is what is expected:
1.) Use newspapers, magazines (Time, Newsweek, National Geographic, etc.) or websites to find a KID APPROPRIATE event that is happening outside the United States.
2.) In the World Event section of the composition book record three pieces of information.
#1 LOCATION - Where in the WORLD did the event take place? (make sure you can locate it on the map)
#2 GIST - Write a brief GIST statement about the article using 15 words or less. (who, what, when, where, why, how)
#3 SOURCE - Cite where you found the information.
3.) On Friday, share the gist and point out the location on the map.
